The BIKER-SHIELD™ motorcycle safety barrier system is designed to reduce the severity of impacts for bike riders who collide with the w-beam guardrail barrier, through the use of spring mounting brackets and corrugated beams. BIKER-SHIELD™ is secured below the w-beam barrier panel and is designed to prevent a dismounted motorcyclist from contacting the supporting posts of the road barrier.

The flexibility of BIKER-SHIELD™ means it can be installed as part of a new RAMSHIELD® guardrail barrier installation or retrofitted to an existing w-beam guardrail without the need to dismantle the existing barrier.

BIKER-SHIELD™ is a supplementary barrier system fitted below standard W-Beam guardrail to reduce the severity of injury when a motorcyclist slides into the barrier. Standard guardrail posts can cause serious leg injuries to fallen motorbike riders; the BIKER-SHIELD™ panel sits at a lower height to prevent riders from sliding under the rail and hitting the posts directly.
BIKER-SHIELD™ is fitted as an addition to existing or new W-Beam guardrail installations. It is not used as a replacement for a primary guardrail. The panel is mounted to the existing posts below the W-Beam rail, adding a secondary protective surface at leg height without modifying the performance of the main guardrail system.
BIKER-SHIELD™ is most commonly installed on roads with a known motorcycle crash history, tight bends, downhill approaches, and routes that are popular with recreational riders. Roads managed by Transport for NSW and local councils may require BIKER-SHIELD™ in areas where motorcyclist casualty risk has been identified through safety audits.
When installed correctly to the manufacturer’s specifications, BIKER-SHIELD™ does not reduce the crash performance of the W-Beam barrier system. Our team installs to the product’s configuration to make sure your crash barrier performs as it should.
BIKER-SHIELD™ can be fitted to existing W-Beam guardrail systems provided the posts and rail are in serviceable condition. We will work with you to assess the existing installation before recommending a retrofit, as damaged or corroded posts may need to be replaced before the BIKER-SHIELD™ panels are mounted.
